In class, I have been reading about Jesus Christ's life and looking for acts of courage. I then had thirty minutes to write about it.
Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." In the bible, there are many ways Jesus showed courage, that is what I will be writing about today. What can we learn from Jesus' action and why should we apply this to our life.
The Storm
One day Jesus was awoken from his nap by his disciples who were in a panic, a fierce storm had come down on the lake they were crossing. "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" his disciples shouted, their words filled with fear. The boat was filling with water and they were in great danger. Jesus stayed calm and had faith in his father. He got up and rebuked the storm with authority. He then turned to his disciples and said, "Where is your faith."
The reason for this being courageous is because Jesus was in a life-risking situation but instead of panicking and losing hope, he had faith in his father, he stayed calm, and spoke to the storm with authority. Something we can learn from this is that even if you come to a rough situation in life rebuke those storms with the authority of Jesus Christ and his Father.
The Wilderness
Jesus was led to the wilderness by the spirit. For forty days and forty nights, he fasted. During that time the devil came and said, "if you are the Son of God tell these stones to become loaves of bread." but Jesus answered with, "No! the scriptures say, people do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."
How this shows courage is because Jesus stayed with his beliefs and rejected the temptation of the devil.
In conclusion, If we apply the ways of Jesus to ourselves we will be courageous and able to get through the rough situations, storms, and temptations in life.
